KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia – From November 16–24, 2024, the historic Yap Ah Shak House hosted “Ode to Women,” a powerful exhibition by world-renowned Spanish sculptor Artigas. Presented by Gallery des Artistes in collaboration with the Embassy of Spain in Malaysia, the show celebrated the strength and grace of the female form through bronze and stone sculptures.
The venue’s traditional architecture offered an intimate setting that enhanced the textured beauty of Artigas’s work, creating a deeply immersive experience. Each sculpture served as a tribute to womanhood, capturing both resilience and elegance.
Edith Ho, founder of Gallery des Artistes, revealed the exhibition came together in just one month due to Artigas’s brief availability. “That was a last-minute rush as the artist could only be in KL for less than 24 hours,” Ho shared. “I approached the Embassy of Spain nevertheless because Artigas is a world-famous sculptor and it’s rare to have sculpture exhibitions here. The Embassy was very receptive, and in a month, we managed to pull it off!”
The Embassy’s support was instrumental, highlighting the strength of cultural ties between Spain and Malaysia. The exhibition’s success also reflected Kuala Lumpur’s growing appetite for diverse artistic mediums and international collaborations.
For nine days, Artigas’s evocative sculptures transformed Yap Ah Shak House into a sanctuary of artistic dialogue—an unforgettable celebration of women, space, and creative spirit.
